White Ghost White Ghost

Before I get down to it, I just want to give you a little glimpse into my life. I have a spoiled brat  perfectly lovely dog. For the past 2 years, she has gotten very used to having my daughter home often during the day and she was loving it. But, now that my daughter is in college, our dog has to spend more time alone during the day. She does NOT like this. So, I make a big fuss over her before I leave for school in the morning. She, however, does THIS (check pic below) EVERY morning as I am leaving.
Her eyes are actually open so that she can look at me sadly. Seriously.

In other news, we have been busy in my first grade class. We read Where's My Mummy and then sequenced the story using Deanna's unit.
And we did some Wizard's Math. Click here if you would like a copy.
Plus, we have been working on our Halloween Centers - Halloween Math Centers - Boo!

And, we just started to work on White Ghost, White Ghost, What Do You See? I made this story about 15 years ago, back in my pre-computer days, where all a teacher could really do was photocopy, cut, then glue. So this is an updated version of the story. There is a black and white section also, for your kids to sequence the story. Here is some of it.

Click on any of the pages for your copy of the story. Aren't you happy it's almost Friday? Yeah, me too.

Fall trees

Here is what we have been up to in first grade. Fall trees! LOVE fall trees. Check out the photo below. This idea comes from my own Grade 2 teacher. She did this activity when I was in her class many, many moons ago and I never forgot it and now, I do it every fall. Basically, I just use a tree template, cut out on brown construction paper, the kids glue the cut out tree onto white art paper. Then I use a small piece of sponge gripped onto a clothespin and we dot, dot, dot the fall colors. I can only show you one bulletin board at a time cause my boards are so small, they hardly hold any work. So, this is one of my mini boards.  Happy Fall Y'all!
Hope you are having a great week.

Pete the Cat's Groovy Buttons Freebie

Got a little story for ya - A few weeks ago, I got to school one morning and noticed that there was blue paint dripping on my classroom floor. So, of course I investigated and discovered that a bottle of blue paint had tipped over in my cupboard, spilled everywhere inside the cupboard and onto the floor. I had my new boots on, so instead of cleaning it up right away (like a good teacher would) I shut the cupboard door. Yep. Just closed it and walked away on all that mess. But, said to myself - I'll clean it up later. Then I forgot about it. It just went out of my head completely. That happens a lot lately.

And so, on Friday, I just happened to look in that cupboard for something. Paint probably. And, then I was reminded. And let me tell you, it's not pretty. All that paint kinda formed a paint river and has now dried and I'm a gonna need me some sort of cleaning fluid built by NASA to get it off. End of story - I now have a cupboard in my classroom with dried up blue paint all over it. And I have decided to like it like that cause I'm lazy trying to be cool.

Speaking of cool, I'm on the 3rd and (I thought) final Pete the Cat story. But, there is a 4th. So excited, it's a Christmas Pete the Cat. Anyway, Pete and his four Groovy Buttons. Love this Cat!
Once we finished the story, we worked on this little sequencing activity. Get your kids to cut the strips out first, the order is mixed up and they glue them right on top of the words, first, next, then, etc....

Keep on Counting

Well, we are into hard core counting in my 1st grade class. Whew! And I have discovered that, although my kids are pretty good counters, they still need some practice - one to one and all that. If your Math program is anything like mine, it needs some help. I've noticed that they just needed to count more. So, we've been practising slash and count. They put a pencil slash on what they count in order to keep track of it. Then, once they have 10, they group it. I am using a Halloween theme to go along with it and we just keep on countin...
Here are a few of them, just click on the pumpkins to download.

October Currently and a Batty Double Freebie

Well, I've already declared my love for October. So, in keeping with that, here is my Currently - a link up with Farley at Oh Boy Fourth Grade.

So, about Winnie the Witch. This is such a sweet story.
Winnie has this huge, witchy like black house and she keeps stepping on her black cat cause he just blends into the background. So, the rest of the story just becomes kind of an exploration in color, cat vs. house. I love it!
This is my all time favorite. Year after year, I read it around Halloween, and my kids are always so intrigued by it. It is such a great story.

Since, we are coming up on Halloween and I love this time of year and I love my followers, I wanted to share with you, part of my Halloween Centers. This is called Batty Doubles. Click on the bats to download.

Have a great weekend.
